The Janas Saxophone Ensemble is a musical ensemble founded in Sardinia that has been gaining recognition at various festivals and concert series throughout the Italian peninsula.
The mission of the Ensemble, made up of eight saxophonists and one percussionist, is to promote and disseminate saxophone literature, with particular attention to the rich repertoire written specifically for this type of formation.
The Ensemble’s program is largely centered on works by composers who have successfully combined the saxophone with folk and popular music, such as Pedro Iturralde, Javier Girotto, and R. Kerner. The selected pieces guide the audience on a true journey through time and space, making the Janas Saxophone Ensemble suitable and effective in a wide variety of settings and venues, including public squares, concert halls, auditoriums, churches, and more.
In special circumstances, the group also performs as a ten-member ensemble, hosting the renowned Italian-Argentine saxophonist Javier Edgardo Girotto (with whom it performed at the most recent European Saxophone Congress in Trento), presenting a program entirely dedicated to Girotto’s compositions. These works are written and arranged specifically for this ensemble and offer rhythmically rich music that blends jazz with the composer’s Argentine roots.
