The duo formed by Dario Balzan (saxophone) and Francesco Grigolo (organ) was born from the meeting of two musicians and teachers active at Italian conservatoires, sharing a desire to explore and highlight the extraordinary expressive possibilities offered by the unusual and fascinating combination of saxophone and organ.
The Duo has performed in numerous concerts and has been invited to participate in prestigious concert series and festivals, including the Vespri d’organo a Cristo Re Festival in Pesaro and the 38th International Organ Festival of the Marca Trevigiana.
Their artistic project offers a rich and evocative musical journey in which the dialogue between the two instruments spans more than three centuries of music history. The programme ranges from the refinement of the Italian tradition of Girolamo Frescobaldi, also through an adaptation by Pier Damiano Peretti, to the liturgical and contemplative atmospheres of Guy de Lioncourt and the elegance of the Romantic tradition represented by Hippolyte Escudié.
The musical journey also embraces contemporary music and the interplay between different languages and cultures through the works of Javier Girotto, which combine jazz influences, Andean rhythms and South American folk traditions, as well as those of Sardinian composers Ignazio and Pasquale Perra, whose music reflects a sensibility deeply rooted in the musical tradition of Sardinia.
An original and engaging programme in which the majesty of the organ and the versatility of the saxophone blend into a rich palette of timbres, giving rise to a timeless dialogue between eras, styles and cultures.
